COURSE DESCRIPTION

Resolve conflicts without making enemies by first understanding your preferred conflict management style. Increasing your knowledge of how others may differ from you tends to help you deal with and manage conflict. Participants will learn to recognize five different conflict management styles. Through case studies that allow you to face and solve conflict, participants will overcome their resistance and get proactively involved.

FEATURES

This workshop will include the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode assessment instrument. Administration of the assessment, scoring, and interpretation will be done during the training session. Interpretation and application of the results will be included as part of the course.

The training will be supplemented by a video, interactive exercises, and PowerPoint slides demonstrating how to deal with and manage difficult people.

    INSTRUCTOR

    Sue Pressman, PhD

    Dr. Sue E. Pressman is nationally recognized as one of the country’s leading career management and transition experts. With a strong background in counseling and coaching, training, assessment, performance management, training, research, and project management, Pressman selects counseling techniques and training interventions targeting all learning styles, research methodologies, and assessments that match client requirements. She creates easily understandable and factual executive-level reports that are based on qualitative and quantitative measurements incorporating results for government and private sector organizations.

    Dr. Pressman designed and established Gallaudet University’s first career center where she served as the director for five years and, prior to that appointment, was a career counselor for seven years. She has taught at Gallaudet University, Virginia Tech, the USDA Graduate School, and The Johns Hopkins University. Pressman is currently an instructor for George Mason University’s Office of Continuing Professional Education. She has conducted research projects for government organizations throughout the United States using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

    Pressman’s client list includes the White House, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Treasury (IRS, OCC, FMS, BEP), U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Trade Commission, as well as business and industry nationwide. She is certified and skilled in using a variety of leading career development and management assessments used to improve communication, understand personality, develop teams, and resolve workplace conflicts. She holds certification in Benchmarks™ 360 leadership assessment and qualification for The MBTI™. Pressman is experienced with the DISC, and widely uses the SkillScan Personal Profile and the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument.

    Dr. Pressman’s credentials include a PhD in counselor education from Virginia Tech with secondary concentrations in adult education and human resource development and psychology; an MA in rehabilitation counseling from Gallaudet University; and a BA from the University of Florida in speech pathology and education.
